Where do you work?

I work at Scorpion. I'm the sole audio person on my team and oversee every aspect of audio for all our productions, both on set and in post.

For how long have you been using SoundFlow?

I've been using SoundFlow now for almost 4 years. I became a member in December 2021.

Can you share some projects that you've used SoundFlow on?

SoundFlow has played a role in every project I've worked on since I signed up.

I work on everything from movies, TV shows, interviews, podcasts, animations, everything!

Can you describe how SoundFlow has improved the way you work?

SoundFlow has improved my workflow tremendously by streamlining repetitive tasks, allowing me to focus more on my edit and mix. It has helped me complete projects faster and makes multitasking easier, improving overall project management.

Can you describe how much time you save with SoundFlow?

SoundFlow has saved me hours, days, weeks, probably months at this point!

I was working on an independent film, taking over for the original sound mixer who had moved on from the project. He had imported all the MixL/R channels from an AAF, instead of using LAV and BOOM tracks. So, I had to go through and do this all manually using a Field Recorder Guide Track throughout the entire film. With SoundFlow, I was able to create a quick script that did this all for me. What should have taken me 1-2 days to do ended up taking me only 2 hours.

Another example, part of my job is to record and mix phone messages for our clients. I get around 50 requests a week for these recordings (I record them every Friday). It's the same message, just with the client name swapped out. With SoundFlow, I was able to automate this entire operation. It typically takes me about 2-3 hours to get this job done. With SoundFlow, it's done in 10 minutes. AND I can walk away from my machine, grab a drink, and I get notified when it's finished. AMAZING!

Tell us about a feature in SoundFlow that excites you

I love the flexibility of having my macros anywhere. I have 3 Stream Decks all connected with SoundFlow in my studio. But then I can still use my scripts when I travel on my iPad in the hotel room, at the airport, or at my second studio in LA, anywhere I mix.

The ability to write custom scripts with JavaScript is the biggest game-changer. There are other macro apps out there, but with this feature, there's no limit to what SoundFlow can do for my workflow, both inside and outside Pro Tools.

The direct integration with Pro Tools is what first attracted me to the software.

Why would you recommend SoundFlow to others?

Because it makes your life easier and better as an engineer. You have more time to focus on your mix, sound design, edits, etc. and less time having to click around.

Testimonial

SoundFlow has been a key player in my workflow. When I don't have SoundFlow with me, I feel myself working slower and am less productive. It has made repetitive tasks a breeze, saving me an incredible amount of time to dedicate into listening to my mix or edit, instead of being bogged down with all the extra clicking.

The fact that there's a code editor means SoundFlow is more versatile than any other automation software on the market. This allows the ability to fully customize what you need done, both in and out of your DAW. And if you don't know how to code, there's the macro editor that has drag and drop solutions to get all your automations setup.

The SoundFlow community is so forthcoming and willing to help, that it never makes me nervous to ask questions in the forum. 9/10 times, what I want to do has already been thought of and solved by someone, and posted in the forum or in the store. It's so easy to get started with all the pre-built scripts and commands, that you'll always be able to find something that can help get you working faster and more efficient.

I look back at when I didn't have it and thought “how did I manage without it?” If you're an engineer, whether podcasts, music, post, or anything else, SoundFlow is a MUST HAVE tool to add into your workflow to get your head back into your mixes, it's that important.
