Mixing Engineer | Producer | Content Manager

What is your job title?

I have a few roles in my day-to-day:

  • Mixing Engineer
  • Content Manager
  • Studio Manager/Producer I mention all three of these roles because SoundFlow helps me in each. Non-musical tasks included.

Where do you work?

  • Mark Abrams Mixing
  • Puremix
  • Vaughan Music Studios

For how long have you been using SoundFlow?

4 Years

Can you share some projects that you’ve used SoundFlow on?

Everything! SoundFlow is central command for my entire computer. If I’ve worked on something, SoundFlow has been there, inside and outside of Pro Tools. But if we’re name-dropping, I used SoundFlow scripts I made to drastically speed up the editing process with Beat Detective on a recent Jack Harlow record.

Can you describe how SoundFlow has improved the way you work?

SoundFlow has drastically reduced the amount of time I spend on a mix by automating mundane, non-creative tasks like session prep and organization, editing, and more. Thanks to the workflow improvements, I can focus on the creative side of the mix instead of the tech.

I also use SoundFlow to ensure consistency across my projects by helping create and organize session folders and assets. I even use it to deliver information to third-party online apps like Dropbox and my CRM, Pipedrive, via web hooks and Zapier.

Can you describe how much time you save with SoundFlow?

On the organization front, a few hours per week. Between computer navigation, file management, and general speed in Pro Tools, it is quite significant. I mix with outboard gear, so I have to print in real-time. I also mix a lot of what I do in stereo and Atmos, which means a lot of stem printing. Bounce Factory saves me at least one hour per mix.

I even use SoundFlow to access files for my job as a content manager with Puremix. Newsletter creation, content scheduling, internal requests, and more are all accessible with a button on my stream deck. If there is a task I do more than three times in a row, I’ll write a script for it and make sure I only press a button in the future!

Tell us about a feature in SoundFlow that excites you

I was a “SoundFlow lifer” when I first used Track Data Utilities. It saved 15 minutes of busy work on a session with a background vocal track count that is punishable by death in most countries.

Bounce Factory saves lives! Chris Shaw’s CS Control has made an incredible addition to my S1/Dock-based control surfaces. That package beats my dock’s native functionality and is a joy.

I have also created mixing session prep macros that reduced mix prep time from about 20 minutes to 5. Simply put, everything in SoundFlow excites me!

Why would you recommend SoundFlow to others?

Besides greatly enhancing the quality of life on the job, I would recommend it to everyone because it allows you to focus on the creative, artistic parts of your job instead of spending time on the “busy work” that comes with using software and tech.

I feel like Pro Tools is a musical instrument now more than ever, and I cannot imagine going back to a life without SoundFlow.
