Atmos Mixing (Complete Pack)

Atmos Mixing (Complete Pack)

A complete SoundFlow package for mixing Dolby Atmos in Pro Tools for film mix sessions.

This is the toolset I built for my own Dolby Atmos film work in Pro Tools. It is organized the way a mix actually runs: lay out the session, conform the edit, set up monitoring and the Dolby Atmos Renderer, mix and automate, then print your stems. Everything runs from SoundFlow commands, decks, and control surfaces. Per-command details live in each command's own description inside SoundFlow.

Organize the session

  • Reveal or hide track groups from memory-location presets, so you can pull up dialog, music, effects, or any group on demand.

  • Open, close, and move to folders, including nested folders, and open or close all folders at once.

  • Tab between scene cuts on the picture track to move through the reel.

  • Delete empty audio tracks, toggle video tracks, select tracks by channel width, and create a VCA from the selection.

  • Route objects with Forte! routing and convert Spanner tracks to objects.

Edit and conform

  • Transfer cuts from a video track onto your audio tracks.

  • Transfer edits and fades from one track to a whole set of tracks.

  • Compile Clips consolidates clips onto the fewest tracks.

  • Rename record and print tracks for clean deliverables.

Monitoring and the Dolby Atmos Renderer

  • RMU Controller drives the Renderer monitoring section over OSC: dim, mute (global, bed, or object), transport (play, pause, stop, rewind, forward, seek), external sync, arm record, input and master source, attenuation and cinema faders, loudness analyze, and monitor mode and layout.

  • Pro Tools Renderer commands cycle the monitor mode and toggle renderer mute for Global, Beds, or Objects.

Mix and automate

  • The Volume and Pan Controller sets pan and volume on selected tracks, with automatic spread across the room for linked and mono tracks.

  • Plugin Utilities handle the insert chain: insert EQ or a limiter, open all inserts (optionally filtered by plugin category), close plugins, cycle inserts and sends, step through plugin presets, enable or disable plugin-parameter automation, free up an insert slot, remove inactive plugins and sends, and build a plugin category list.

  • Automation commands toggle the Automation window, set specific automation-enable states, preview and latch, write to selection, suspend preview, set all tracks to Read or Touch, and toggle preview.

  • Preview Warning puts an on-screen flag up whenever automation preview is active.

Print stems and preview

  • Simple Stem Bouncer is queue based. Build solo passes or mute passes (per-track incremental, or grouped), then bounce the whole queue unattended, with names auto-filled from the tracks. It has its own surface.

  • Movie Preview Control adds markers and handles transport for movie preview sessions, with its own surface as well.

Group mute and solo scripts for Pro Tools 2025.6 and earlier are kept in their own folder, since they do not work on later Pro Tools builds. Use them only on those older versions. Shared internal Helpers modules run behind the scenes and are not user-facing commands.

Setup and requirements

  • RMU control: the first time you run any RMU command it asks for your Dolby RMU IP address. Enter 127.0.0.1 if the Renderer runs on the same machine as Pro Tools, otherwise the address shown on the RMU. It saves this to ~/Documents/RMUip.json. Requires the Dolby Atmos Renderer version 5.3 or later. If you get a file error, enable SoundFlow under System Settings > Privacy and Security > Full Disk Access.

  • Tablet control: open the Atmos Mixing iPad surface from the SoundFlow app on a tablet (iPad or Android) on the same network as your SoundFlow machine.

  • Folder open and move features require Pro Tools 2024.10 or later.

The iPad surface is yours to change

Some buttons on the tablet surface are wired to the author's own mix template, such as the folder-open buttons tied to their marker locations, the Ref/Mix and Stereo/Binaural/AppleMusic monitor toggles, and Rename Record. Copy the surface, choose Edit Surface, and change each button's Title and Command to match your own sessions.
